Belas Kasihan Kendiri: Satu Kajian Kualitatif Pengalaman Guru di Sarawak

Apabila emosi negatif dibiarkan dan tidak diselesaikan, ia sentiasa dilihat sebagai penyumbang utama kepada perasaan tertekan dan sindrom burnout yang dialami oleh guru. Konstruk belas kasihan kendiri dikatakan mampu mengenalpasti kedua-dua emosi negatif dan positif dalam diri individu. Belas kasihan kendiri juga digambarkan mampu meningkatkan kesejahteraan psikologikal guru. Walau bagaimanapun, konstruk belas kasihan ini baru mula diberi perhatian di Malaysia dan kurang dikaji secara kualitatif. Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk meneroka dan memahami pengalaman secara subjektif guru, dengan mengambil pandangan yang mendalam tentang intipati faktor penyumbang belas kasihan kendiri. Reka bentuk kajian kualitatif konsensual (CQR) telah diaplikasikan dengan menggunakan temu bual mendalam dan berstruktur separa untuk mengumpul data. Tujuh orang guru telah ditemubual dan setiap temu bual mengambil masa selama 60 minit. Data kajian dianalisis dengan menggunakan kaedah pengekodan terbuka (open coding) untuk mengenalpasti tema-tema yang timbul menerusi data mentah yang diperolehi daripada responden. Hasil kajian menunjukkan lima tema faktor penyumbang belas kasihan kendiri iaitu: (a) mendapatkan bantuan, (b) belajar daripada pengalaman orang lain, (c) mengenalpasti kebolehan kendiri, (d) perasaan syukur dan maaf, dan (e) mengenalpasti tekanan kendiri. Implikasi yang melibatkan kesihatan mental dan emosi guru, pengamal psikoterapi, dan pembuat polisi turut dibincangkan.
